Abstract and kinetic painter and architect. Currently works and lives in Caracas and Paris.
Carreño started producing his first abstract paintings in 1950, before leaving for Paris where he stayed for a number of years. In 1953 he held his first solo exhibition at the Arnaud Gallery in Paris.
Between 1953 and 1972, Carreño participated in a number of solo and collective exhibitions, while at the same time giving lectures regarding his works.
In 1983, the Museo Español de Arte Contemporaneo (Spanish Museum of Contemporary art) (known today as Museo Reina Sofia) offered a retrospect of his works.
He was awarded the Venezuelan National Prize of Fine Arts in 1972.
