Mateo Manaure 
(b. 1926, Monagas, Venezuela)

After graduating from the School of Fine and Applied Arts in Caracas (1941-1947), he moved to Paris for a short period with a scholarship from the Venezuelan Government.  On returning to his country, he took part in the formation of the Free Art Workshop in 1948.  In 1950 he once again traveled to Paris and joined the Venezuelan artistic movement called The Dissidents, which marks the beginning of his period of Lyric Abstraction.  One of his most outstanding exhibitions was held in 1977 at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Caracas.   He has worked abstract and geometric tridimensional concepts, as well as figurative expressionism.
Manaure was awarded the Venezuelan National Prize of Fine Arts in 1947 and several others.  Manaure has participated in many solo and collective exhibitions in Venezuela, USA and Europe.
